Cathay Pacific Upgrade With Miles

The cheapest way to upgrade to the next higher class on Cathay Pacific is to use your miles.Only you can upgrade one level up to the next higher class on eligible tickets. Upgrades of two levels up with miles, such as from Economy Class to Business Class, are not allowed if your flight offers Premium Economy Class seats. If it doesn't offer Premium Economy, you can upgrade from Economy to Business Class.

By Direct Payment by paying Fare Difference

You can make direct payments to upgrade your Cathay Pacific flight. You have the option to contact airline representatives online or by phone. (You can also do that from the airline's ticketing office or with a third-party agent).
To make the upgrade, you just have to pay difference between cost of your current fare and higher class fare for which you would like to upgrade.

Note: Only through this direct payment will you be able to upgrade to two higher classes. In other words, you can upgrade from economy class to business class. As stated above, Asia Miles, Upgrade Bids, & Points cannot be used to make the upgrade.

Cathay Pacific Upgrade Bid

On Cathay Pacific, you are able to bid for an upgrade at the best price according to you. If your ticket is eligible for an upgrade, you are going to receive an invite at least four days before the day of the flight. You can also check from your end whether a bidding option applies when you upgrade your bid from the "Manage Booking" option.

If your bidding is successful, you will be notified by email 48 - 24 hours before journey date.
To complete the bidding, you will be charged with the amount bid by you. You will be charged only if your bidding is successful.
It is suggested that you must bid within the preset range.
You can change or cancel it up to 50 hours before the departure of the flight.
In order to succeed in your upgrade, it is recommended that you put the best price forward. You would be less likely to get the upgrade if it is below the price range.

Through A Bookable Upgrade (if you are a Gold or Diamond Level member)

There is another special way to make a bookable upgrade (if you happen to be a Gold or Diamond level member). If you would like to upgrade yourself or one of your travel companions, get one level up to a higher cabin class once you have reached the criteria of 1,000 status points (Gold) or 1,600 status points (Diamond).

Visit the Cathay Pacific website & log in to your account.
Head to the "Mid-status Benefits Summary" page.
Click on "Manage Booking".
Select "Request a Bookable Upgrade" or Claim your bookable upgrade (3 days before the departure).
Enter your details along with the passenger's name & flight sector.
Submit your request.
If you request your end, you will receive a confirmation from the customer representative by email within 72 hours.

General Booking Policies for Making Cathay Pacific Upgrade

You can make only one level up with points and miles or through bidding, from Economy to Premium Economy, Premium Economy to Business, or Business to First. You cannot have two levels up, like from Economy to Cathay Pacific Business Class seats.
Only with cash can you have more than one level up from Economy to Business (even if you have a middle Premium Economy Class on your flight).
When you apply for Cathay Pacific upgrades, it is allowed for only one direction, which means that if you book a return trip, the price will be two one-way upgrades.
